A good day was had by all who ignored the mornings rain and turned up for a sail anyway. WNW-W 8-15kt winds, balmy temperatures, no rain - really mighty fine conditions for Lake Rotoroa.
The course was a simple triangle with the gybe mark in front of the clubhouse, the bottom mark way down near the playground, and the top mark opposite Killarney Rd. It was a lake of two halves, with good solid breeze down the hospital end, and snakes and ladders up by Killarney. The gybe mark off the jetty provided plenty of entertainment for the spectators. The Laser fleet in particular made a special effort, with death rolls downwind, and close finishes.
If only the finish line was 100m closer Claudio would have held on for his first win on the lake, but a capsize at the last mark and missing a bit of a lift on the final beat meant he got caught up in a duel with Jason the MatchRacer, and predictably he came off worse. There was another great battle on the final leg between the first OptiGreen, the first Optimist, and the first Starling.
